Fallback URL, a simple plugin for YOURLS

I've just written a simple plugin for YOURLS and I would like to share it with you.

YOURS stands for "Your Own URL Shortener" and it's a really nice URL shortener that you can install in virtually any hosting that has PHP enabled. Pretty cool, isn't it?

I was missing a way to redirect to a custom URL (instead of give an error) when the short URL does not exist. So I made this plugin. It is really simple and you can use it in your YOURLS installation (or use as a template to make your own plugins).

You can download it from: fallback-url.zip

    1. Install the plugin by copying the fallback-url folder from the download into your yourls server in the user/plugins folder. Then restart yourls and look for Plugin Management where you will find Fallback URL Plugin Config. That's where you put the url you want people to go to when the link is not there.

    2. I still don't know where to enter the fallback-url. I can't find what you mentioned.

    3. At first copy "fallback-url" folder from archive into sho.rt/user/plugins/ http://clck.pl/8
Then open administration area of your site and enable plugin http://clck.pl/7
Then you will see Fallback URL Plugin Config link in plugins menu at the top of plugins page.

  2. Sorry for this off topic comment. I have been looking for a developer who has worked on Yourls to create a plugin hopefully at a reasonable price. There is no official Yourls community so I had to look at the plugins page to find a developer.

My requirement is connected to this bug report:
    https://code.google.com/p/yourls/issues/detail?id=1198

YOURLS does not show the existing short link in the database if you try to shorten a long url that has been shortened already. Developer suggests a plugin to add this functionality to the platform. If this is something you would be interested in developing, I would like to get a quote. Thanks!
